Responsibility

Ethics

The CRISP project has received ethical approval by the Ethics Review Committee of the European Research Council in November 2018.

The CRISP project has an ethics advisor who consults in regular meetings on ethical concerns, such as preventing increasing vulnerability or stigmatization of vulnerable groups.

Our research group manual lists important documents and points of contact with regard to ethical concerns. Our junior team members are trained in Good Scientific Practice at the Doctoral School of the University of Luxembourg.

Outreach

A user council – a group of persons living with dementia in Luxembourg – gives regular input, for the first time at the Dementia Research Forum in September 2019, on the realization of the research project.

We disseminate findings from our research through publications, press releases, press interviews, and social media to the general public.

Environmental responsibility

In the team, we constantly search for measures to reduce our academic carbon footprint:

  • #flyingless – Traveling by train instead of airplane where possible
  • Anja compensates emissions from conference air travel of her team with private funds, see attachments for the years 2019 2021 2022 and 2023. In 2020, we didn’t have any air travel due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
  • Read an interview with Anja on her group’s measures to fly less and compensate here (PDF).
  • We hold meetings via video call instead of traveling where possible
  • Hosting of events with at least half of the food choices vegan/vegetarian

Anja is member of the Rotary Club Luxembourg-Hearts (website), which has different projects on climate action, such as:

  • Increasing awareness of the importance of climate action, for example in a Rotary climate conference with the minister for environment and sustainable development Carole Dieschbourg in November 2019.
  • Projects that ideally serve both the purpose of education and sustainability, such as donating decommissioned IT equipment to schools to enable home schooling in May 2020.
